Will AI Data Centers Make Energy Prices Skyrocket?
AI data centers are being built right now all over the United States, including one near my hometown of Amarillo, Texas, where I first started in ministry. (That project, referred to as an “AI HyperGrid” by a company called Fermi, is going to be one of the largest in the nation.) There are around 400 data center projects in Texas right now, and 5,400 are already built across the country.
We are seeing record investment into these data centers—and a lot of experts are warning that we don’t have enough energy to power them. A new report says the power demand for AI data centers is expected to grow 30x over the next 10 years, as the tech industry invests $1 trillion to manufacture supercomputers, chips and servers.
