New Poll: Americans Turning on Israel
A startling new survey by YouGov/Economist, from August 1 to 4, shows that American sympathies with Israel are starting to shift due to the conflict in Gaza. Some key findings:
29 percent of Americans say they sympathize more with Israel, but 26 percent sympathize more with the Palestinians. This is the smallest gap between the two sides since the original Oct. 7 massacre.
More people are now criticizing Israel’s actions against innocent Palestinians (41 percent) than believe Israel is justified in responding to Hamas (32 percent).
7 out of 10 Americans say there is a hunger crisis in Gaza. Nearly 40 percent favor expanding humanitarian assistance to Palestinians.
More people favor cutting aid to Israel than boosting it. An enormous 42 percent say the U.S. should decrease its military assistance to Israel.
Also, 43 percent of Americans say Israel is committing genocide against Palestinian citizens. That’s the highest that number has been in months. This includes 65 percent of Democrats, but a shocking 19 percent of Republicans also accuse Israel of genocide.
Nearly 80 percent of Americans want to see an immediate ceasefire between Israel and Hamas.
Half of American respondents—including 70 percent of Democrats and 23 percent of Republicans—now favor a two-state solution.
