Are Lukewarm Christians Spewed Out? A Word on Revelation 3:16

Every week, I answer a common question related to the end times. Today’s is about whether lukewarm believers can lose their salvation or if they were never truly saved to begin with.

Question:

In Revelation 3:16, Jesus warns the Laodicean church that He will "spit out" the lukewarm. I have friends and family who once professed faith in Christ but are no longer walking with Him. Does this verse mean they will be spewed out of Christ's mouth? Can a true believer lose salvation by becoming lukewarm—or were they never genuinely saved in the first place?
