In Every Season, Every Time: Life
L’Chaim, “to life,” is the universal toast of Jews around the world. It also expresses a foundational commitment. The phrase is so simple, it can be easy to miss its profound meaning that extends to every human experience.
To get an idea of its reach, try this… Go to Ecclesiastes chapter three, verses one through eight. You might recognize the text from The Byrds’ 1965 rendition of Turn, Turn, Turn, a song composed by Pete Seeger in 1959.
To everything turn, turn, turn
There is a season turn, turn, turn
And a time to every purpose under Heaven
In the Biblical passage, there are fourteen seasons. Each of them has two times. That list begins with this preface:
To everything there is a season,
A time for every purpose under heaven.
Remember this. It is the context to everything that follows. All of them are seasons of …life.
