Iran Resumes Nuclear Talks with the West
For the first time since Israel and the United States struck Iranian nuclear sites in June, Iran is resuming its nuclear negotiations in Istanbul this Friday. Representatives are meeting with Britain, France and Germany alongside the EU foreign policy chief.
These talks are framed as efforts to restore the 2015 deal, which President Trump pulled out of. It would also lift sanctions against Iran. But Israeli advisors are already worried that the talks will give Tehran more confidence on the world stage—along with the political cover to start rebuilding its nuclear infrastructure.
“The topic of the talks is clear, lifting sanctions and issues related to the peaceful nuclear program of Iran,” Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei said in his weekly briefing.
Anytime you hear Iran talk about its “peaceful nuclear program,” you can be sure that the word “peace” is a smokescreen for something else.
