Living Behind Enemy Lines
I was watching a World War II movie not long ago. In one scene, the commanding officer speaks to paratroopers from Easy Company who have parachuted behind enemy lines. The commander says to them, “A Panzer Division is about to cut you off. So you will be surrounded.”
The lieutenant in command of Easy Company makes this classic reply: “We are paratroopers, sir. We’re supposed to be surrounded.”
I love that line. I thought to myself, that is what we are as Christians, in these challenging days prior to the Lord Jesus coming for His Church. We are paratroopers dropped behind enemy lines. We are making our way through hostile territory. Everywhere we turn these days, we see the enemy is at work. In corporate America. In our public schools and universities. In the news media. In our local, state, and national governments. And yes, even in churches that no longer value or teach the Word of God.
