Pray, Love, Share and Serve
In The Voyage of the Dawn Treader by C.S. Lewis, Lucy and Aslan—the lion who serves as the Christ-figure in the story—have a memorable conversation about the future:
“Do not look so sad. We shall meet soon again.”
“Please, Aslan,” said Lucy, “what do you call soon?”
“I call all times soon,” said Aslan; and instantly he was vanished away.
When thinking about the coming of Jesus, all times are soon. This truth is highlighted throughout the New Testament, but 1 Peter 4:7 is as clear as any by opening with these startling words, “The end of the world is coming soon.”
Many wonder how Peter could say that almost 2,000 years ago. How could the end have been “soon” in the early A.D. 60s? Was Peter mistaken?
