Israel and Lebanon Reach Historic Gas Fields Agreement
After several years of talks mediated by the United States, the once-warring nations of Israel and Lebanon have reached a historic agreement related to major offshore oil and gas fields in the eastern Mediterranean.
The 332-square-mile Karish oil and gas fields, located beneath Israeli and Lebanese waters, have been under dispute for years. The agreement would mark a major breakthrough in relations between the two nations and would allow Israel to begin extracting natural gas and exporting it to Europe.
